Building Something a Little Different

By trading out our keyboards for power tools, we helped a local non-profit assemble beds for children in need.

SHP started in a garage but over the years has expanded to have hundreds of chapters across the United States and Canada. It’s an organization we long wanted to check out, and we finally had the opportunity to pitch in on a holiday break evening for “Workshop Wednesday”.

We volunteered at the Syracuse chapter where over 1000 beds were made in 2022. That’s simultaneously an amazing accomplishment and also a sad reality of the need in our area. During our volunteer session with dozens of others, we produced 32 beds. 32 kids will now be off the floor and into a bed. That’s only made possible because of the amazing SHP team that created a highly refined and efficient factory that allows volunteers like us to come in and utilize the jigs, rigs, systems, and structure. Some of the “stations” include cutting, sanding, drilling, assembling headboards and slats, and staining. Mattresses, bedding sets, and pillows are also collected through SHP, and beds are delivered and assembled on Saturday mornings throughout the city.

It’s an impressive setup, an important mission, and a cause worthy of your time and resources. Please consider helping them out in any way you can:
