12×6 (Winter ’20 Edition)
Happy Holidays, friends! We genuinely hope you’ve been able to navigate (*gestures broadly*) everything since we last spoke. We’re back to wrap up 2020 with another edition of 12×6: a quick collection of 12 studio updates, projects, and insights from the past 6 months.
Something’s Brewing in Geneseo
A public house, in fact. We had a blast creating brand marks for Strange Design—named after the Phish song—in anticipation for their opening in 2021. Lots of fun applications in the works!
Room for One
Thanks to Room, a versatile “phone booth” of sorts, we said goodbye to the cavernous echoes you’d normally hear on our conference calls. We’ve nestled it right next to our device lab and can’t wait until we’re all back in the studio to make proper use of it.
Friends of Adjacent
It’s no secret that collaboration is at the core of what we do. Maribeth took time to chat with two of our frequent collaborators this year, mograph specialist Matt Petrocci and voice artist Michelle Sundholm, on our blog.
Two Videos, One Mission
We teamed up with Matt and Michelle to help IVMF Syracuse University convey their purpose across two videos: an explainer to those they can assist and another to potential donors.
First Impressions On the Fly
Throughout the year, we teamed up with Wegmans to create interactive promotions on their homepage—and a customization API to fuel them with visitor-specific data.
Evolving an Important Resource
We’ve been working with our friends at Attention Span to redesign the digital home of the Cancer Nutrition Consortium, an organization who provides resources like recipes and insights for those undergoing cancer treatment. Relaunching soon!
Finding Our (In-House) Fit…
Partnering with in-house teams has become an increasingly great fit for our studio. Dan took to our blog and laid out five ways we’ve found in-house partnerships to be mutually beneficial.
…and Staying Nimble, Too
The twists and turns of 2020 has placed a premium on being nimble, something that already comes naturally to a studio of four. Dan details six versatile ways our studio has been working on projects lately.
Home Again, Home Again
Our crew has officially spent the majority of 2020 working from home—but that hasn’t stopped us from finding ways to feel connected. Occasional virtual happy hours and some birthday deliveries continue to boost our camaraderie.
No Demo Reno
Behold the power of investing in design systems: we’re proud of the one used on hormelfoods.com, and our collective teams used the back half of this year preparing to launch an evolved site design without needing to uproot foundational code.
Pep for Their Step
We helped produce a kit packed with all kinds of spirited swag for Hormel Foods Spirit Week, alongside their Corporate Communications team and Wynne Creative.
Ready for the Next Level
Having launched the new hiddenlevel.com earlier this year, we spent time documenting Hidden Level’s design system in Cookbook. We’re excited to continue helping their team put it to use in 2021.
That puts a bow on 2020, and not a moment too soon (right?). We’re lucky to be able to do what we do with all of you. Really—thank you for all the support this year.
We hope you and your teams and families enjoy a magical holiday season and find time to recharge your batteries. Can’t wait to do even bigger and better things in 2021!
