Clarity 2018

Each year we set out company goals for the year to come, and last December we added “attend a conference together” to the official list. This December we checked it off.

the SVA Theatre and 23rd Street in NYC

We’ve been shifting and more narrowly focusing on the type of work we want to do in the last few years. So, we wanted the conference to be valuable for what we are doing now and where we intend to go. We focused our search around that and began looking for a conference with design systems as a core theme. After a few weeks of narrowing the list, we quickly homed in on Clarity Conf. There was just one problem—we weren’t sure if it was going to happen in 2018.

Eventually, we got confirmation possibly even in NYC?!?

So, we waited…and finally, in April we got the good news that it would happen in the winter! And on the East Coast!

On December 10th we packed our bags and hopped on a train to NYC.

We spent two days at Clarity 2018 and it was everything we hoped it would be.

The talks were amazing and covered topics such as:

  • the need for empathy for other teams & individuals
  • justifying and selling in design systems
  • perceptions and misconceptions
  • issues and concerns
  • dos & don’ts
  • common mistakes
  • the concerns of various creators, stakeholders, and users
  • potential complications
  • available tools/examples
  • how to be inclusive

We’re always looking to better our craft and the talks provided amazing insight, real-world examples, and many considerations we’ll keep top of mind as we do work for our clients. It was an inspiring and validating experience for us all and we’ll be back!

We also got to spend a few days with each other away from the office, which is always nice. And doing it in NYC with amazing food and drink options didn’t suck.

Below are some of our of favorite takeaways and moments:
